briefing
As part of the Industrial Processes course, we were tasked with exploring different manufacturing methods used in the industry. Our team was given the following challenge: We had to design and build a two-step stool that met specific requirements. It had to include at least one joint, but the joint could not rely on screws, bolts, or any threaded fasteners. The stool needed to support a minimum of 100 kg while weighing less than 5 kg. These constraints pushed us to think creatively about materials, assembly techniques, and structural integrity.
sketching & iteration
The first steps we took in our project were based on capturing on paper all the ideas we had, thus generating a wide range of sketches and ideas.
prototyping
With the prototypes in hand, we were able to evaluate the functionality and usability of our design and identify areas for improvement. By testing the prototypes and gathering feedback, we were able to make necessary adjustments and optimize the design before moving on to the final product.
designed to be light
The iron, we have worked in the form of perforated sheet and square profiles of 10mm on the side and 2mm thick. These tubes give a clean and simple finish, reducing the total weight
